We've Got Worms (and Pizza!)

Ah hahahaha.I just love using that phrase for some reason. The part about the worms I mean.Cracks me up every time.

I cannot believe Charlotte picked up this worm. She flips out if a ladybug comes within 10 feet of her. She fell in the mud 3 times, but still didn't want to go inside.

Even though it was wet outside, it was a really nice day to go out and play. We looked for buried treasure, took a walk around the property, and collected some things to put in Ethan's new Nature Journal, which he painted and put together this morning.

(Check out Charlotte)

I totally forgot to post about our trip to Pizza Hut.

We went with the M.O.M.S group from church. I really like that group- everyone is so nice and alot are homeschoolers. It stands for Moms on a Mission for our Savior.

I almost promised myself I would never complain about doing dishes again.

But then I got real.

We got to take a tour and see how they take orders and make pizza, and then the kids got to make their own. I didn't get to take too many pictures. Charlotte got scared going into the big freezer and wouldn't go back. Aunt Alyssa helped Ethan make his pizza. He got to put it on the "belt" all by himself, which was totally the highlight of the whole thing.

A Couple of New Things Around Here

1. We put Charlotte in her big girl bed last night for the first time. She was very excited, and only got up 5 times before going to sleep.
This is her when I first put it up last night:

Ethan had woken up early this morning to go to the bathroom, and I could hear them both go in there. Then Ethan said very gently,"Ok Charlotte, now let's go back in our room." What a good big brother!

I was pretending to still be asleep at the time, but then I snuck in there to see what they were up to.

2.We started doing school today.(For real this time) So what I did last week was to write out the alphabet and then pick a theme for each letter that would last us through a week. They all are something from the Bible, and this week is A- Adam.
Ethan's memory verse this week is Genesis 2:7 "The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground." He had to glue on the "dust" and then he could position the body parts how he wanted, as long as he put them in the right order. The top one is by Charlotte.
Then we looked at seeds and "planted" them on the paper, talking about the differences in how they looked and felt. I should have thought about this sooner and got different kinds of veggies, but this was all I had and I think it turned out ok. Charlotte liked helping with this alot.
This was a fun idea I saw online. It's called Muffin Tin Monday, and as you can probably tell, I was a rebel and came up with this instead. Actually, I couldn't find any small muffin pans. Again- thinking on the fly. It's how I roll.
So the basic concept is that on Monday you use this to introduce a new theme and fill all the spaces in the muffin tin with correlating foods.
The kids were incredibly messy after the dirt cups, but they actually ate everything and wanted more.
All our homeschool posts will go on here separately- probably on the bottom of the page, so you can see what we are learning. Hope you enjoy them!

Outside, Finally

Today we were able to get some fresh air and sunshine after touring Pizza Hut and making pizza(or not, as was the case with Charlotte) with the M.O.M.S group at church ( more on that tomorrow).

Grandpa and Queenie's place was absolutely made for children-lots of animals and trees and room to run around and explore.

Much of the time was spent harassing the cats

and drinking bubbles.

"Mom, look ! This is what the bear in the Jungle Book does!"

But isn't that what these kinds of days are for?

Gramps was at the shop, so it was a nice walk up the driveway to see him.

Intestinal discomfort aside, it was a very nice afternoon.

Garden of Ethan

I thought of that one all by myself : )

I know Spring is around here...somewhere. Just waiting to pounce on us and wrap us in a big warm sunny hug.

I can't believe it's March already!

Of course I say that every month- 'I can't believe it's October!' I can't believe it's January!'

And it's always true. Where oh where does the time go?

So in honor of Spring and in defiance of Winter, we planted some flowers yesterday.

I love the smell of dirt.Almost as much as I love the smell of cows. There's some random trivia for ya.

This was a good opportunity to explain how things grow and get started talking to the kiddos about the Creation week. They seem to understand better when they can get hands-on.

And don't you think for one second they didn't try to squirt the water in their mouths.

Or each other's mouths.

Or my mouth.

Oh- they are Marigolds for Ethan and Zinnias for Charlotte.

Happy Birthday Becky!

An Ode to Becky:
Twenty -six years: Wow, you are old.
I bet you remember when slaves were sold.
Just kidding just kidding, don't get upset,
It's your birthday and rememberence of the harsh racial injustices of our fore-fathers towards those less fortunate are not what I meant.
So relax.
Twenty-six years you've been my friend
and the sharer of my DNA
Twenty-six years of secrets and late night talks and me stealing your clothes when you were away (O memories...)
I've always admired you, and looked up(literally) to you
even when you were mean and called me names
which you occasionally did do.
And that one time you punched me in the stomach
when i was only six-
I shall nix it from my memory as a present to you:
nix nix nix nix.
You were always the brave one out of us two
speed limits and road rage(on your part) were nothing to you.
You sung in your sleep, a country "lullaby"
until I called mom and dad upstairs to make you stop; you woke up and almost cried
( it wasn't your fault- you were just grumpy)
I see alot of you in Charlotte, my daughter-
your temper and greenish eyes just for starters.
It's like having my own pint-sized Becky
Everyday I think to myself-I'm so lucky!
I don't know what I did to deserve such a treatie
as a 16-year old you in my 2 year old sweetie.
But nevertheless, I still love you and so,
here's a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! and just so you know,
It's all in jest the things that I said, because I know you can take it-
you have a hard head.
